Undies draw at St Mary's, Melrose

Belhaven Hill's brave U11s showed some real grit to draw in a tough encounter down at St Mary's.

Playing alongside the Tweed and in the shadow of the Abbey and towering Eildons the boys took on a big St Mary's outfit.

They started very brightly scoring two quick tries through William Gale and Joe Townshend but were, thereafter, unable to maintain a foothold in the game.

Thirty five minutes of sustained home pressure conjured up two tries for the big St Mary's second row and the match was drawn.

Overall, it was a tough encounter from which the boys learnt a huge amount.

Onwards to our next game against Craigclowan!

Final score: Belhaven Hill U11A 2 - 2 St Mary's U11A

Man of the match: Freddie Stuart; I did not see this fine lad miss a tackle all day. He saved two or three certain tries with his cover defence and was the backbone of an excellent backline.

Coach's Notes: The boys' behaviour today was exemplary. They played with the sort of spirit that I expect from a Belhaven Undies side and were as well-mannered and sportsmanlike after the game as they were before it. There is plenty to work on in training but they can be very proud of their conduct.
