Be Challenged
All children at Belhaven are encouraged to have a go at a stunningly wide range of co-curricular options:
- Musicians are blessed with a bespoke Music School which is fitted with a recording studio, multiple practice rooms and a suite of keyboards on which every child learns to compose.
- The games pitches, astroturf, swimming pool, golf nets and Sports Hall offer endless sporting opportunities.
- Artists are inspired by the stunning views over Belhaven Bay from their eyrie in the Art department.
- Young actors learn to tread the boards in different spaces, inside and out
as we focus on developing character and flexibility, resilience and appreciation in our broad-minded young people.

Activities
Be Challenged
Even for a young child, life is composed of challenges. At Belhaven our children come to understand that nothing is achieved without hard work and a willingness to meet difficulties head on.
'Have a go' is often heard here and, with support and encouragement, our boys and girls learn that the key to success lies within themselves. From small beginnings: the first time on stage, the music recital, breaking into a team… a certain determination is instilled so that the Belhaven child will not shirk a challenge, but tackle it level-headedly and with the expectation of success.
Running a full programme of fun, challenging activities at Belhaven is an integral part of providing an all-round education and being a boarding school. Of course, day children also take part in activities and benefit hugely from this aspect of our boarding ethos.
At 5 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, a range of activities is on offer for our boys and girls. This Activities' period is always very popular. We reckon the choice is pretty wide-ranging, and staff are always concocting new ideas.Click here to see the activities that we have to offer!

The children are encouraged to express themselves and experiment with materials and techniques. Whilst exploring the visual world, the focus is on experiences and providing opportunity for inspiration and enjoyment.

Drama
Drama
Drama connects to every subject and to every child. Whether it is from playing the lead in the school play to having the confidence to put your hand up in class - Drama is essential.
(Mrs Anna McGrath)
In line with our Vision for Drama, from September 2021, each year group will have one scheduled Drama lesson per week. The aim is to bring the page to the stage; maybe it is helping Form 1 students unpick the complexities of Shakespearean characters or working with Form 6 exploring friendships and social skills. Using drama as a tool to unlock our communication skills.Click here for more information

Music
Music
The "Music School" at Belhaven Hill is surely one of the largest and best equipped of any Prep School in the UK.
There are 8 Music Practice Rooms, each with a piano, a fully equipped Percussion Suite and a Recording Studio. Newly added is a large Keyboard Suite with 16 brand new electric keyboards. All pupils are taught weekly keyboard lessons as part of the curriculum.
All this is in addition to the main music classroom and rehearsal space. This large room can seat over 100 people comfortably, with 60 chairs permanently set up for rehearsals. It has a large Yamaha grand piano, a stage piano, and desks for 30 pupils face the interactive whiteboard for when music theory or composing is taught.

Outdoor Education
Outdoor Education
Come rain or shine, all of the children have one lesson of Outdoor Education per week.
During this they learn a range of vital life skills - from identifying flora and fauna to cooking on camp stoves; from outdoor games to building emergency shelters, all accompanied by hot chocolate and the endlessly fascinating process of lighting and maintaining a fire.

Sports
Sports
Sport is a vital element in developing healthy and active minds and bodies at Belhaven Hill and the children here are fortunate to benefit from games sessions every day in addition to their timetabled Physical Education lessons.
All boys play rugby, hockey and cricket while the girls play netball, hockey and rounders as their main sports each term.
There are, however, many other sports on offer at Belhaven Hill including: football, athletics, cross country running, swimming, tennis, golf and lacrosse.
Enthusiastic, well-coached teams of all ages enjoy an enviable record of success, often against much larger schools than ourselves. We aim to give every child the opportunity to represent their school in competitive fixtures each term and encourage all to reach their potential while endeavouring to push the more able to their limits.
Teams from Belhaven Hill have recently enjoyed great successes, winning regional competitions in seven a side rugby, hockey and netball. A remarkable number of individuals have gone on to be selected for representative teams or to win sport awards to their senior schools.
Each term ends with very lively and rather competitive patrol (house) competitions in the major sports in which everyone in each patrol participates.
Sport is alive and well at Belhaven Hill.
