Outdoor Education
Outdoor Education
Come rain or shine, all of the children understand and appreciate the value of learning outdoors at Belhaven.
Making the most of our incredible location, Belhaven's Outdoor Education evolves as the children mature. In the Pre-Prep, weekly Outdoor Education activity sessions introduce the children to the role that they play as stewards of natural habitats.
In Forms 5 and 4, at the younger end of the Prep School, they start to build Forest School skills into their weekly lessons and, by Form 3, they are ready to experience adventures beyond the School's extensive grounds.
Working alongside ethical adventure company Ocean Vertical, Belhaven's coastal location comes into its own as children are pushed beyond their comfort zone as they enjoy surfing, paddle boarding and coasteering throughout the year.
Regular opportunities to learn outside continue throughout a child's time and might include a camp out, a sponsored walk, tree-planting, wood conservation in Belhaven's own Centenary woodland or, ultimately, a week-long adventure with friends. At every opportunity, their skills and instincts are put to the test.
As a result of the many life skills learned in these popular activities and lessons, the children grow more resilient through their experiences. It is this subconscious education that is so vital to the formation of happy memories and the lifelong companionship that is the essence of a Belhaven education.
The [Belhaven] children are credit to your school and to the wider community. A huge well done for everything they achieved over a whole week of living in the woods. Their fortitude was inspirational...
