There are three vacancies:

Boarding, Teaching and Sport Assistant

Belhaven Hill is looking to recruit a Boarding, Teaching and Sport Assistant for the start of the next academic year, starting on 1st September 2022. The successful applicant will have a passion for teaching in a boarding school environment, be looking to develop their career and be able to demonstrate the confidence to perform to a high standard. The candidate would be required to support class teachers in lessons, to offer one-to-one academic support when required, to coach a variety of sports and be prepared to commit to boarding duties in the girls’ house on a weekly basis. As a boarding assistant, the applicant would report to the Girls’ housemistress, as a teaching assistant, to the Deputy Head Academic and as a Sport assistant to the Director of Sport.

This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated person to contribute to all aspects of life at the School. Belhaven Hill School is Scotland’s leading co-educational full boarding and day preparatory school, set in a beautiful coastal location in Dunbar, 30 miles east of Edinburgh. There are currently 123 pupils aged between the ages of 5 and 13 years, with about 60% of those full boarding. There are currently 39 girls boarding in the girls’ house in the Summer term.

While teaching at Belhaven Hill is demanding and requires a full commitment, the work is fulfilling and fun. On appointment, new staff are provided with a mentor and, for the duration of the first year of employment, are supported by the induction process. The salary will be discussed at interview.

Matron

Belhaven Hill is looking to recruit a Matron to join a thriving school community of young boarders. This role is available from early May but there is the potential for an alternative start date of September 2022.  The successful applicant will join a committed team of Matrons providing pastoral care to the girls (aged 8-13) in the Girls’ Boarding House.  The role requires the applicant to be available to work on Thursday and Friday evenings during term time only. The shift runs from 6pm until 8am the following morning on both nights preceding a ‘Weekend In’ and Thursday night only in a week leading up to a ‘Weekend Out’, which typically occurs every second week of term.  A room is provided in which the Matron can sleep once the girls are in bed.

This is an opportunity for a well-qualified, enthusiastic and motivated person to contribute to the Girls’ Boarding House.  Belhaven Hill School is Scotland’s leading co-educational full boarding and day preparatory school, set in a beautiful coastal location in Dunbar, 30 miles east of Edinburgh. School Minibus Driver

Belhaven Hill School is looking for a School Minibus Driver from mid-April 2022.  Ideal candidates will be an experienced, responsible and reliable School Bus Driver to transport pupils daily to school in the morning following a scheduled route and ensuring their safety at all times.  We are looking for drivers that would complete the following schedules:

  • An hour in the mornings from approximately 7.30am, Monday - Friday and every second Saturday during term time and in the evening from approximately 5.45pm for an hour Monday - Friday.      
  • Weekend routes – In addition, if desired, every second weekend to return boarding pupils to and from home on a Friday afternoon and Sunday evening.  Driving would be term time only

The candidate must hold a current, clean and valid driving licence which includes either D1 or a PCV licence and have the ability to become a member of the PVG scheme process through Disclosure Scotland.

Salary will be £10.50 phr.
