Girls Hockey 1st v Ardvreck
MVP: Poppy Janson
Scorer: Flora Struthers
It was an early start for the girls to get to Ardvreck. The weather had not been kind and even as we driving through the gates the grounds keeper was using the leaf blower to push excess water off the pitch. A brief warm up was all we had before heading straight into the match. Our first ten minutes were tentative as the girls literally found their feet on the wet surface and woke up from the drive. Ardvreck took advantage of this and put themselves ahead with some well organised play in the D. As our midfield started to wake up they put the pressure on the opponents and we gained ground on the overturn. Shortly after we capitalised with a goal of our own.
From here on out the game flowed up and down the pitch. A lot came down to fitness and determination to win the ball during 1 v 1s. Ardvreck were relentless with the pressure on our players when they had the ball, making it a difficult job to get shots on goal. Our response slowed on overturns creating a disadvantage for our defenders who, despite their brilliant tackling, were outnumbered on occasion. The final score line doesn’t reflect the evenness of the outfield play.
Final score: 1-6
