Girls' Hockey: U9 Festival at St Mary's

The U9s had a brilliant day away at St. Mary’s. Three other schools came along too for a fun hockey festival, giving the girls a chance to practise what they have been learning at school.

Their first match was against St. Mary’s. This was a close match and there was lots of lovely passing and tackling. We just need to think about tackling them before they come into the ‘D’ to shoot. Iris had some super breaks where she dribbled most of the length of the pitch. Sadly St. Mary’s won in the end.

Our second match was against Fettes. This game was definitely the one where we played our best hockey. They were passing and tackling well and even had a shot at goal, which bounced off the post. It was very even but a few less mistakes by Fettes resulted in their victory.

Our last match was against Cargilfield. This was definitely the scrappiest match. Lots of panicking passing and football skills being used instead of hockey skills. We need to work on big sweeps to clear the ball out of the ‘D’ and up to the Forwards for a chance to score.

A fun day out, lots of positive play and plenty we can work on before our match against St. Mary’s next week.

Well done, girls!
