All classes have a double lesson of Music per week. This includes rhythm and pitch, practical skills, composition, listening and appreciation.
Most children learn an instrument from visiting teachers, and many belong to an orchestral group or choir with frequent opportunities to perform in public.
Musicals and concerts, both formal and informal, are regular features throughout the school year, with an annual inter-patrol competition for the Mansfield Music Cup in October and the playing of a large number of bagpipers is always one of the highlights of Sports Day.
