Athletics makes up a large part of Belhaven Hill's sports' timetable in the summer term.
The athletics programme is conducted during afternoon games sessions and during P.E. lessons. All children have the opportunity to participate in the wide range of events covered and each child attempts to achieve four main aims:
First of all pupils attempt to better their own standards in each event from the previous year.
Secondly, pupils can secure their place in events of their choice for Sports Day by finishing in the top ten places of an event.
Thirdly, children aim to learn new skills during the teaching of events and to develop their knowledge of techniques, rules and strategy for competitions.
Lastly, and possibly most importantly of all, pupils gain that feeling of utter satisfaction knowing that they offered maximum effort and did their absolute best when completing an event.
This process encourages learning and offers attainable success to pupils of all abilities.
Sports' Day is the climax to many aspects of the school year and is a wonderful day for the whole family, enjoyed in Belhaven's beautiful grounds. While effort and participation are fundamental to Sports Day (every single child takes part), it also creates a stage for the more able performers to show what they can do.
