Barnard Castle Tournament 2025

Back to Barney!

It has become an eagerly-anticipated tradition to travel the 3.5 hours to Barnard Castle every last weekend in September. The Under 12 rugby and hockey teams performed superbly, winning the majority of their matches, after understandably slow starts in comparison with their opponents who are playing together regularly. The boys finished second in their group after a narrow loss to Prince Henry’s Otley and three victories, and the girls also won three matches on their way to the latter stages, eventually finishing third of the six teams. The boys ended up in seventh of sixteen.

All of the children have taken an enormous amount from the experience – boarding in a senior school, watching a joint Barnard Castle and St Peter’s York First XV take on a touring side from New Zealand in Darlington on the Friday night and, of course, the bouncy castles and canteen breakfast...!
