Belhaven's Mixed Cricket Match reports against Cargilfield

Girls' 1st Team

Belhaven U13 Girls’ 1st XI beat Cargilfield by 54 runs

Belhaven U13 Girls’ 1st XI produced an excellent all-round performance to record a convincing 54-run victory over Cargilfield at Belhaven on a warm but showery afternoon for cricket.

After losing the toss, Belhaven captain Bee was asked to bat first. Openers Maggie and Rose set the tone perfectly, playing with both power and precision from the outset. Maggie announced Belhaven’s intent with a huge six before being bowled, while Rose produced the shot of the day with a beautifully timed cut for four through cover.

Belhaven’s innings then hit a difficult patch as wickets fell in quick succession, leaving the home side struggling at 55-5. However, what followed proved to be the defining story of the match. Bella and Emily combined superbly in a magnificent unbeaten partnership of 114, taking control of the innings with mature and composed batting. Bella finished on an outstanding 46 not out, while Emily contributed an equally impressive 43 not out, steering Belhaven to a commanding total of 169-5.

With the ball, Belhaven maintained their momentum. Maggie and Anastasia bowled tightly and were both rewarded with deserved wickets, helping to keep Cargilfield under pressure throughout the chase.

Captain Bee led the side well in the field, with all the girls showing great energy, enthusiasm and the right attitude from start to finish. Their sharp fielding and collective effort ensured Belhaven closed out a comfortable 54-run victory in an impressive team performance.

Mixed U11d

Belhaven 65 – Cargilfield 74

Alice captained the team today and having lost the toss Belhaven went to bat first. Arabella and Lexi opened the innings, taking some risking runs from wide balls, and after 2 overs scored 9 runs.  Bea and Amelia were next into bat, again hitting some good balls, and making some good runs, scoring a further 15 runs. Sam and Jossie worked well together in their batting overs. Despite some good hits, the Cargilfield fielders were quick with the ball and got out the batters. Jossie scored the first 4 of the game from a super hit. Darcey and Alice had a fantastic two overs. Both girls hit the ball well with Darcey scoring 3 4’s . Between them they scored a further 26 runs. Our final batting pair were Eleonore and Alec who also had a super two overs. Both scored a 4 from a super hit taking the final score to 65.

It was then our time to field, and Arabella opened the over with some steady bowling. This was followed by Lexi and the Cargilfield batters used these nice balls to score some runs. Bea was next to bowl and had a steady over followed by Amelia, where the Cargilfield team found it more difficult to hit. Sam was next up and took a wicket from his first ball – well done! Followed by Jossie who bowled a good over. Darcey bowled some excellent balls which the Cargilfield batters used to their advantage and Jossie took an amazing catch in Alice’s over. Eleonore bowled the penultimate over brilliantly, but Cargilfield had a strong batter who used Alec’s super bowling to score many runs in the final over allowing Cargilfield to take the lead.

As a team you did really well. There was great communication in the batting pairs and encouragement from everyone when fielding. We need to remember that when we play on astro, the ball is more difficult to stop and so our fielding needs to be tighter.

Players of the match: Jossie for an amazing catch, Darcey for some fantastic bowling and batting

U9 'Bouncers'

Much improved performance from U9 Bouncers comfortably sees off Cargilfield.

A good and deserved win today.  Captain Eliza won the toss and opted to field first and she was straight into the action as Ralph forced the first wicket of the day with a run-out on only the second ball.  In the third over Hughie took two in two through a stumping and then a fabulous catch by Innis and after seven overs Cargilfield had scored only 12 runs.

The score quickly ramped up in four overs to 54, however, as the Cargilfield batters ran well between the creases and scored well on the tiny boundary.  There came a late flurry of wickets for us, however, in the autumn of the match, as Innis caused a run-out and Hughie clean bowled a Cargi batter.  In the 16th over Ralph took 2 from 2 through his accurate bowling and there was just time for a final run-out from Hamish and a beautifully clean-bowled wicket from Innis to keep the Cargilfield score down below 100.

There were a couple of occasions we were asleep in the field, plus our throwing back to bowler actually caused some overthrows but apart from that we were solid with the ball in hand.

First innings: Cargilfield 99 runs for 8 wickets off 20 overs.

By way of response Belhaven scored consistently to eat away at the total throughout our innings.  Hughie and Hamish hit 21 runs for the loss of only one wicket, Maddy and Fergus hit 32 unbeaten, 20 runs came from the bats of Ralph and John for one wicket and 16 for 2 from Eliza and William.  The best was saved for last, as Innis and Will comfortably saw us over the line with 45 from their 24 balls.

We do need to work on our communication between the wickets but in general we batted sensibly and only made two unforced errors which cost us wickets.

Second innings: Belhaven Hill 135 for 5 wickets off 20 overs.

Stats:
Wickets: Ralph (2), Hughie, Innis.
Catches: Innis.
Run-outs: Ralph, Innis, Hamish.
Stumpings: Fergus
Runs: Innis (28), Fergus (16), Hughie, Hamish (10), Will (6), Maddy, Eliza, William (4), John (3),

Man of the Match: Innis for confident class.

Belhaven Bouncers U9 win by 36 runs.

U9 'Bouncers-b'

On Wednesday 20th May, the U9 Bouncers hosted Cargilfield in an exciting and closely fought match. The weather caused a few disruptions, but both teams played with great enthusiasm throughout.

We bowled some very good overs and worked hard in the field, although we were unfortunately unable to take any wickets. Alfie and Tessa both gave strong performances, and there were a couple of chances for catches that were unlucky not to stick.

With the bat, Alfie and Archie A were our main scorers and helped keep the game very close. In the end, the team were unlucky to lose by just one run after a very competitive match.
