Boys' Cricket: U9 v Merchiston

U-9 boys beat Merchiston at Kwik Cricket

“I missed it because there was a bee on my head”

In the first match of the season this year’s crop of boys won the opener in good style.  Winning the toss and putting the visitors in to bat Xander took a wicket first ball.  Run-outs in the second and fourth overs from Hector and Rollo set the tone for the game from our point of view.  Noah took a clean wicket, as did Fergus and a final run-out near the end from Harry put the visitors on 93 for 6.  We would have taken more wickets but for Harry fluffing an easy catch because, in his own words, “I missed it because there was a bee on my head”.  Such problems, alas, afflict cricketers.

Our bowling and catching were reasonable for a first match.

Merchiston 93 for 6.

In our innings we got off to a slow start, Bertie and Noah making 13 runs from their four overs, including Noah being bowled once.  Hamish and Xander added 28 for no loss, before Harry and Rollo added a further 22 for a single wicket – the result of confusion running between the stumps between the two batsman.  Innes and Jack put on 30, due in no small part to some wayward bowling, before Fergus and Hector finished with 27 also for no loss.  Douglas had a run between the stumps at the finish too.

In our batting innings Hector and Hamish each scored 10 runs, Fergus and Rollo both 8 while the rest of players chipped in nicely and all of this bodes well for the rest of the season.  A promising start – well played everyone.

Belhaven 120 for 2
