Boys' Football: U9 v St. Mary's
Today’s fixture was always going to be tough one with the Belhaven boys having hardly played any football prior to this match.
So, on a cool, Wednesday afternoon St Mary’s arrived. We got straight into things with two games at the same time. St Mary’s made a strong start on pitch one scoring 2 early goals and on pitch two it was a very even start. On pitch one the boys were defending as hard as they could but couldn’t stop conceding the goals and by half time we had conceded 7 goals. However on pitch two Wilbur was having a great first half scoring 2 goals.
We then switched the two St Mary’s teams and started afresh with two new games.
Pitch one had a much more steady half this time battling hard, Tristan leading a number of attacks and have numerous shots on goal. Xander also had a good game making a lot of important tackles. In the last 5 minutes St Mary’s managed to bag themselves a late goal to win the match 1-0.
Back on pitch two Belhaven struggled against a very strong St Mary’s side, conceding a number of early goals. A stand-out player in this game was Archie making 4 fabulous saves in goal. The end score being 7-0 to St Mary’s.
A good learning experience for the boys, the show of sportsmanship was incredible from both teams. Well done
