Boys Hockey U11a v Strathallan

Boys' Hockey: U11a v Strathallan

Belhaven 8 - 0 Strathallan U12

Today saw the U11s’ first run-out of the season and we ended up with a resounding victory.  Scoring within the first minute through a Hector tap-in, two more goals were scored in the first half; Archie S. scoring from six yards and Hector sweeping in nicely from range.

We had played a superb first half of hockey in what was essentially our first hockey match in two years, or indeed, ever and although I gave a few pointers at half-time I was very impressed.

In the second half we applied more pressure and though Archie in goal had to make a couple of good kick-outs, Hector scored three more and the industrious Alfie added two more goals, which he well deserved.

It is very unusual to say this – in fact I would go so far as to say that I have never said it in any game I have coached – but every single player played well today without exception.  Archie was effective in goal and cleared wide well, the three defenders Rollo, Sam and Harry held well but pushed up too, Archie was creative all day, Wilf’s skills were refined and penetrating, Archie disciplined and Hector lethal up front.

Brilliant.

Next week: Loretto, to be held on the Pinkie surface within the school proper.

Man of the Match: (And I have never said this in fourteen years of coaching matches) Everyone.
