Boys' Rugby: 1st v Mowden Hall

Boys' Rugby: 1st v Mowden Hall

The team arrived at Mowden after a long and slow bus journey. Asked to go straight from the bus the team didn’t disappoint. The game started in an ebb and flow fashion with both teams attacking well and defending well too. The deadlock was broken with James producing a fine solo effort to dance his way through for Belhaven’s opening try. Another great break from distance by James ended with a fine tackle, George showed quick thinking to pick the ball and dive over the ruck for the score. The third try saw the same players combine with a great wide pass from James resulting in George coming in down the left wing. The final try came from a great solo run from George weaving his way through tackles to score.

Half time score: Belhaven 4 tries – 0 tries Mowden

Belhaven’s dominant display continued in the second half. The first try coming from a kick and collection from James to score. George scored his fourth after a turnover from a Mowden attack and cantering down the wing. Belhaven were attacking with pace into space and Johnny showed good leg drive to punch through a gap in the middle of the defence. George grabbed his fifth try after kicking through and, despite good defence from Mowden, diving on the ball, George made the steal and touched down. The last try for Belhaven cam from Luis continuing his quality running with ball in hand to break through the middle and score.

Final score: Belhaven 9 tries – 0 tries Mowden

This was a very pleasing victory, gained as much through great defence as strong attack. Belhaven can move forward into the second half of the season with confidence and seeking continued improvement.
