Boys' Rugby: U11a v Cargilfield

Belhaven 6 – 6 Cargilfield

Before kickoff I was warned that Cargilfield would be well drilled, with a fast and aggressive defence. It would need a great performance if we were to beat them.

We started the game incredibly well with Alfie scoring two tries: a quick-thinking intercept and then a second down the blind side of the scrum. Our attacking game was stretching the Cargilfield defence, but it wasn’t long before we were on the back foot. Strong running through the centre and tackles too high cost us dearly.

Alfie scoring a third down the wing and Rollo finishing an opportunistic try in the corner ensured Belhaven was always that bit ahead, but each time we scored Cargilfield won one in return, keeping it level.  It was continued pressure that led to tries.

Alfie got his fourth (fifth for the team) with a show of blistering pace before Cargilfield scored their fifth & sixth tries to go ahead for the first time in the game. With minutes remaining, Rollo picked the ball up, crashed through tackles and dived over the line to bring us level.

Some nail biting minutes towards the end of the game could have seen a victory swing either way, but Mr Townshend's whistle put an end to proceedings and shredded nerves were calmed. The draw was certainly the right result, as neither team deserved to come away with nothing from this thrilling game.

Tries: Rollo (2) and Alfie (4)
Man of the Match: Rollo
