Boys Rugby U9 v St Marys

Boys' Rugby: U9 v St. Mary's

The under 9s had their first away fixture of the year away at St Mary’s. We had two teams on this occasion it was a young team and an old team. The boys were all really excited for this fixture as they had been training hard and have improved a lot.

We got straight underway at the match and both the St Mary’s teams started strongly, scoring two tries each early on. Belhaven then settled into the game, bouncing back with a try on one pitch from Xander and on the other pitch by Wilbur. The defensive part of our game, which we have been working on recently, was much better and at half time on the older boys' pitch we were down 3 - 1 and it was 3 - 3 on the young boys' pitch.

We had a quick half time talk then straight back to it. The young boys bounced back quickly with Xander and Innes both scoring. The older boys were in a tough battle against a very strong St Mary’s side. They kept working hard and managed to get a couple of tries back, courtesy of Wilbur again. A special mention to Fergus who managed to take practice into a game with a couple of moves we had been working on in training.

The younger boys' match was drawing to a close, the score sitting at 5 - 5. St Mary’s managed to burst through our defence, which was beginning to tire, and scored a try in the last few seconds of the game to win. The older boys unfortunately came second today as well. The final score 7 - 4 to St Mary’s.

The boys should be really proud of themselves as they are improving every day and the parents can see this in the matches. Many thanks to the parents who did travel to St. Mary’s as the boys loved having you there. A massive well done to the boys from Mr Brown, keep your heads held high!
