Co-Curricular Bulletin: Be Courageous
The start of a new term is always full of opportunities to try new things and to 'Be Courageous' (one of our School's three core values). The children have selected their new activities for this term, are playing a different sport, signing up for the various competitions and learning to be courageous in everything they do. Here is a snapshot of what they have been up to.
Games: Hockey, Netball, Football, X-Country & much more....!
A new term sees a new sport for the children and the opportunity to test their bravery as they head to Hallhill for hockey training, test their shooting accuracy in netball or try new drills in football. There are also extra sporting opportunities during the week, including, golf, skiing, swimming and cricket. Weekly fixtures allow the children to put their skills to the test and make friends from other local schools.
School Competitions: table tennis, draughts, backgammon, chess
The children sign up to take part in these various competitions, sometimes learning a new game or facing a tough opponent. With the refurbished pool table, this is also a popular free time activity for all ages.
Mastermind
Do you have a special subject on which you would like to be quizzed for 90 seconds, followed by 2 minutes of general knowledge? With topics ranging from Taylor Swift and Harry Potter to the Controls of a Glider, 21 children from Forms 1 – 3 are stepping up to the challenge of the black chair and spotlight to see who will be crowned Mastermind Champion 2025!
Activities
With 28 different activities happening each week, the children have plenty of opportunities to try new things. Below is just a very small selection; crochet, fly tying and electronics. Do check the activities page on the website for more information and photos of each activity. What would you choose?
Forms 1 – 4 will be taking part in the musical, Oliver Twist, this term and are growing in confidence on stage with their acting, singing and dancing. We can’t wait to see the final performance.
Music: The Mansfield Music Competition
Each Patrol is busy working on their own group performance to see who will win the fiercely contested trophy! Standing up on stage and performing, whether as a soloist or as part of an ensemble is a scary thing to do, but the children are showing great courage in giving it a go.
Art & DT
All children in art and design are encouraged to be courageous with their artwork. The children can explore their creativity both during timetabled lessons and in their free time. Molly has designed and created this dress in her own time. The bold Picasso-inspired collages by Form 3 are now decorating the Music School walls.
We hope you have enjoyed seeing what the children get up to outside the classroom and how they are prepared to 'have a go' and seize every opportunity.
