Girls Hockey U11 v Ardvreck

The girls were looking forward to their match as they have not played hockey for over 4 weeks and have only played one match this term.  As with our previous match, we knew it would be tough.

Amelia, Ottilie and Wendy battled hard in attack trying their best to push through the Ardvreck defence.  When Ardvreck cleared the ball from the attacking circle, Willow and Daisy were there to scoop it up and again try to make ground but the Ardvreck attack were too strong.  Liv did an amazing job in goal – our session on clearing the rebound the day before helped her greatly and kept her on her toes for the many attempts Ardvreck sent her way; she certainly cleared more than she let in.  Iona and India worked hard at trying to clear the ball away from the defensive circle to give Liv a little breathing space in goal.

Although the score line certainly didn’t go our way we had a couple of promising attacking moments and our skills have improved greatly.

It will always be tough for this team this term, playing against stronger and older opposition but this team was incredible.  They held their heads high in true Belhaven spirit and played with guts and determination right until the end.  They were commended by the Ardvreck coach for their courageousness and keenness, despite conceding so many goals.  Liv was given a special mention by the Headmistress for her determination in goal.

3 stars and a wish:

A wish for next match – stop and control the ball before you move it forwards
