Girls' Rounders: U9 v Ardvreck

Girls' Rounders: U9 v Ardvreck

Off to Ardvreck we went in the small blue minibus. Packed lunch was eaten and shoes quickly removed. Some wanted the radio, others wanted to sleep. Unfortunately for Mrs Holliday, the radio and the ‘co-pilots’ seemed to win the vote. After an infinity are we there yet questions, we did indeed arrive at Arvreck playing fields and sunshine which promptly disappeared after all the sun cream had been applied.

Losing the toss, we were put into bat first. The bowler was good but the girls made plenty of contact with the ball and kept the other fielders on their toes. We struggled to find the pace to get to second post and so didn’t capitalise on our good batting. Ardvreck were quicker round the diamond but made less contact with the ball, their slightly better knowledge of the rules helped gain them some half rounders. At the end of the first innings the score was 6 ½ - 9 to Ardvreck.

The second innings bared more fruit for the girls, their batting further improved, and they sent the deeps running on several occasions. With a few more rounders under our belts, we went into the final session with confidence. There were flashes of brilliance in the field when we weren’t pulling posts out or sitting on bases. Ardvreck’s tall batters however gave them the advantage.

Final score: 13½ - 17 to Ardvreck
