God Be With You Till We Meet Again

Amidst the rehearsals for the Showcase, we get Form 1s out of school and into the real world as much as possible during this final week. Monday’s sunshine meant that we spent the afternoon at the beach, but not before they had completed the annual ‘Iron Will’, the Belhaven triathlon that is the culmination of so much sporting effort over their time at school. This was, as ever, fiercely competitive – an afternoon at Belhaven Bay, followed by a silent disco in the Rosie Room, was just reward!

On the final Tuesday of term, Form 1 travelled by train into Edinburgh for the afternoon. Climbing Arthur’s Seat, exploring the Royal Mile and then a delicious meal out proved to be great preparation for a busy couple of days back in school.

On Wednesday and after the hilarious ‘Speedy Meets’ hosted by Mrs. McGrath, we held the Leavers’ Dinner, to which Form 1 are encouraged to invite an adult guest. This guest cannot be one of their parents, but must rather be someone who has supported them thus far in life – a godparent, grandparent, aunt or uncle or family friend. Mr. Pete Richardson, Headmaster-elect of Loretto School, spoke warmly and wisely after supper, and everyone enjoyed Rosie’s Leavers’ reel, which you can see here.

At the end of the Summer Showcase, the Form 1s headed to Cove with Mr. Townshend and Mr. White for an evening of exploration and excitement, before waking up early for a final dip in the sea and obligatory photo on the Bridge to Nowhere at Belhaven Bay. Leavers’ Dares then followed – waking up their fellow boarders with the Pipe Band before a boarders’ water fight in front of the school now seems to be the tradition!

By the time it came to Prize-giving and the Leavers’ Service, everyone was looking smart and ready for the final act of Prep School life – the presentation of Leavers’ gifts and a final goodbye in front of the Pavilion. This year’s Form 1 have been a fantastic year group, and we wish them all the very best of luck as they move on to their senior schools in Scotland, England, France and Spain.
