U11A Cricket

Opponents:  Strathallan Prep.        Date: Wednesday, 29th April
Venue: Belhaven Hill                      Time: 2.30pm

The U11A 2026 season got underway today when we hosted Strathallan on the main pitches, in glorious sunshine and before a healthy crowd of enthusiastic supporters.

Though scheduled to be a hard ball, paired match (each pair facing 4 overs), after just one practice this term, not all the Strath. players were quite ready for hardball, so we ended up playing a blended game.

Skipper for the day, Archie, won the toss and chose to bowl first and the first Strath pair were happy to face a hard ball. Woody and Cleo opened the bowling for us with Woody picking up a wicket with his 4th ball and Cleo doing even better by taking 3 wickets in her first over! Fin bowled a very tidy over for no reward and then Archie steamed in and took 2 in his over. 6 wickets in 4 overs – not  a bad start to the season.

The next three pairs were all soft ball and we rotated through the bowlers. Lochie collected two wickets, Annie bowled very accurately and Sigi bowled a good line and length (though with a hard ball, this is often punished!). The opening pair then came back in for 4 more overs of hard ball and Monty, Woody and Archie shared those overs with Monty bowling a super line and length for 1 wicket and the other two each picking up 1 more wicket. Throughout all of this, Brixton was brave and energetic as ‘keeper stopping a lot more balls than he let through.

With –5 runs for each wicket, Strath ended their innings on 24 runs.

Cleo and Lochie opened the batting for us. They ran and called well between the wicket and Lochie played some lovely shots. It is never and easy job opening the batting and Cleo struggled to get going, playing across the line and being bowled – not the ideal start for her but there are many matches to come and I’ve no doubt she will learn from today.

Coco and Woody paired up next and added 8 runs off the bat, also running well between the wicket and playing positively. Archie and Monty were next in and they scored an impressive 28 runs off the bat. Monty’s running was very dynamic and Archie mostly managed to keep up. Fin and Brixton batted very positively with Fin playing a couple of lovely cover drives but they also each lost a wicket which brought their tally down a bit. Our final pairing was Sigi and Annie and Sigi, in particular, was very dynamic at the crease, scoring at will with a range of shots, including two scoop shots in a row, one of which went for 4 and one of which was just stopped on the boundary – I think these are first successful scoops I have seen in a match at U11. His attempted reverse sweep did not work out quite as well...

Result:   Match won by 110 runs.
POTM:   Archie – captained positively today, encouraging his team, picked up 2 wickets and was second highest scorer.

A special mention to Sigi, making his Belhaven debut and showing that he is one to watch.

U11c Cricket v Strathallan

Belhaven 73 – 3
Strathallan 17 – 4

The first match of the season is always exciting and with a large group of juniors keen to play, the 8 members of the team today were super. They demonstrated great communication on the pitch and more importantly supported and encouraged every member of the team.

Belhaven went to bat first with Mary and Sandy opening the match. Despite facing some wide balls, they were keen to score from these and scored some impressive runs and 4s from these. Sandy faced a good bowler and scored a 4 on his second ball. After their 2 overs, the pair had secured 39 runs.

Next into bat were Harvey and Grace and both followed on with some great batting. The pair faced some good bowlers, both managing some single runs and Harvey striking another 4. Grace and Harvey scored a further 16 runs.

James and Lyra were next into bat, but the pair found it difficult to try and hit some of the wide balls. Unfortunately, Lyra was bowled out in her second over but after two overs had secured a further 9 runs between them.

Our final batting pair of Grace and Alexander saw another impressive effort, both trying hard to hit the balls, and both facing a good bowler who bowled them out on the first over. A better second over for the pair scored them a further 9 runs taking the total to 273.

As we went into field, Sandy bowled brilliantly taking a wicket on his fourth ball. Mary then went into bowl and the Strathallan players found it difficult to hit the ball. Harvey and Grace were next to bowl an over each and only gave away 5 runs between them on the 12 balls – very impressive! James and Lyra were then keen to follow suit with their overs, James taking a wicket from a great ball and Lyra bowling out the player on her first ball of the over. The final pair to bowl saw Alexander and Grace and again, great bowling from both, with a very impressive over from Alexander giving away no runs and bowling someone out.

The team demonstrated great strength in their bowling today and tried hard with their batting, hitting and ‘wide’ and ‘no-balls’ where possible. We didn’t have much experience of fielding out on the boundary, but when the ball did come their way, we need to remember to ‘stop and drop’ for the ball.

James was a great captain for the team, encouraging all the players today – well done.

Mrs Gale's player of the matchSandy for some amazing bowling

U13B

Belhaven U13B against Strathallan

Belhaven U13 2nd XI made a superb start to their season with an impressive victory over Strathallan in Perthshire on a beautiful afternoon for cricket.

Captain Tristan won the toss and made the decision to field first — a choice that quickly proved the right one. Rodriguez and Rose opened the bowling brilliantly, setting the tone with accuracy, discipline and early breakthroughs. Rodriguez claimed two wickets, while Rose picked up one of her own as Strathallan struggled to build momentum.

The pressure continued throughout the innings with Alexander, Anastasia, Bella and Will all contributing wickets in a strong all-round bowling performance. In the field, Santi was outstanding, taking a sharp catch and producing an excellent run out, while Rodriguez held on to two catches and Leo added another. Belhaven’s energy and teamwork in the field ensured Strathallan were restricted to just 47 runs.

In reply, Santi and Rodriguez got Belhaven off to a confident start. Rodriguez in particular batted aggressively, striking powerfully through the leg side and racing to 15 runs from only four overs. Further down the order, Finley and Rose added more attacking shots to keep the scoreboard moving and guide Belhaven to a comfortable victory by 51 runs.

It was an excellent all-round team performance and a very encouraging start to the season. There are still areas to improve, particularly running between the wickets and shot selection when batting, but this was a well-deserved win. Well done to everyone involved!

5th Team

5th VIII v Strathallan (Away)

Strathallan batted first and got 105 runs
Belhaven batted to make 190 runs

Belhaven won by 85 runs

This was the first match of the season and showed the hard work that players have put in to their cricket so far.  There was some excellent fielding with players attacking the ball in the field, some good catches and some well-pitched straight bowling.  Batting was also good with plenty of 4s and some 6s.  Well done to everyone.

The highlights:
Nearly every bowler got at least one wicket in their over but Alice got two in the first over of the match and Sophia and Blanche also got two wickets.

For the batting, Gaston and Fernando scored 37 runs in their two overs and Calantha and Blanche scored 29.  Cecily and Sophia scored 11 runs.  Alice and Sylvia had to bat twice to make up the numbers and scored 16 runs in their 4 overs.
