Mixed Cricket matches against Fettes

Wednesday, 6th May 2026

U11A Team

Opponents:    Fettes Prep.         Date:  Wednesday 6th May
Venue:   Fettes                           Time:  2.30pm

The U11A’s second fixture of the season was another paired hard-ball match, this time against Fettes, at Fettes.

Fettes batted first and struggled against our bowling attack which was mostly accurate. Woody was the pick of our bowlers with 4 wickets in his 3 overs, for only 3 runs! Lochie, Cleo and Fin each took one wicket. Some good moments of fielding and throwing, along with an excellent catch by Fin, limited Fettes to just 38 off their 20 overs with the vast majority of those runs coming from extras.

With the bat, Archie and Lochie got us off to a fine start with Archie, in particular, playing some fine drives for his 12. Monty and Fede were next in and they were very dynamic, scoring all round the bat and adding a further 24 runs to the total including some lovely fours. All the remaining batters contributed and kept their scores in the positives with Sigi, coming in last, whacking it around the field and striking 3 fours on his way to 14 not out. Add in lots and lots of extras, by way of wides and our total was 128 at the end of 20 overs.

This was another convincing win for the team but, if truth be told, it was not much of a challenge. That said, the boys and girls made the best of their opportunities, remained engaged and enthusiastic and continued to build on their skills and cricketing experience.

Result: Match won by 6 wickets.

POTM: Woody – four wickets is an impressive haul.

U11 B Cricket v Fettes

Yesterday the U11b team and I made our way to Fettes for our second match of the season. Although it was nice and sunny, the temperature did not reflect that.

The team were playing paired soft ball cricket, meaning they bat in a pair for a total of 4 overs during the innings and the also bowl 2 overs each.

1st pair up to bat were Sandy and our captain for the day Annie F. Together in their 4 overs batting that made a whopping 74 runs.

2nd pair were Dougal and Flora G, they made 32 runs.

3rd pair: Grace C and James made 14.

4th pair: Mary and Andrew made 19.

Last pair of Brixton and Holly Ha made 23.

Altogether making 162 for 3! A super effort from the whole team. They were all really encouraging of their friends and remained positive throughout the whole innings which was amazing.

Going into bowling we again had Annie and Sandy up first. Annie set her field, then her and Sandy again began a super few overs. Sandy took 2 wickets, Annie took 1 and Sandy also got a catch off Mary's bowling, well done!

Our next pair to bowl were Flora and Dougal who both bowled brilliantly.

Grace and James had a great few overs as well with James taking a wicket!

Mary and Andrew again were such a string partnership with Mary taking 2 wickets and Andrew taking 1.

Lastly with Brixton and Holly bowling, Brixton took 1 wicket as well.

Altogether they made 99 for 9.

All the team played brilliantly and were great at encouraging and supporting each other.
Well done to you all for a fantastic match and a great win!

U11C's Cricket vs Fettes

Belhaven 88 – 49 Fettes

On a bright but chilly day in the capital, Dulcie won the toss and sensibly opted for Belhaven to field first. As captain she then led by example, taking two wickets in her overs.

Eliza, Jemima, Atticus & Cordelia each picked up wickets too. And those who didn’t take a wicket were equally impressive with their bowling, keeping Fettes total at 49 after 18 overs.

With the bat in hand, Belhaven went out slogging. A total of fifteen 4s was an impressive tally, with Joseph hitting a particularly impressive 6! Not only did Max, Finn, Delphine and Noah hit big shots, but they also looked to score sensible runs when not making the boundary. A total of 88 runs in the 15 overs Belhaven faced was impressive, with only one wicket lost.

Following the match, a well-deserved match tea was enjoyed by the teams.

U9 Yorkers

Yorkers deservedly win typically error-strewn first match of the season.

In the first match of the season today Belhaven Yorkers beat Fettes with an error-strewn performance but one which bodes well for improvement for the rest of the season.

Bowling first, we skittled Fettes out for a total of 59 runs for 4 wickets.  Ralph took a wicket as Archie made a fine catch in the first over before Hamish clean bowled.

Off her own bowling Maddie ran a Fettes batter out and finally, with expert precision, Rory scored another run-out from distance.

Archie and Rory were probably the pick of our bowlers, Archie in fact conceding just two runs from his twelve balls.

First innings: Loretto 59 runs for 4 wickets off 16 overs.

By way of response Belhaven didn’t need to do too much, as although we reached a total of 74, we actually scored only 16 of those runs, the rest being wides or no-balls.  Hamish batted well and we lost only two wickets, Rory being bowled cleanly after a lazy shot and then getting himself foolishly run-out as he stepped out of his crease.

Second innings: Belhaven Hill 74 for 2 wickets off 16 overs.

Stats:
Wickets: Ralph, Hamish.
Catches: Archie D.
Run-outs: Maddy, Rory.
Stumpings: -
Runs: Hamish (8), Ralph, Rory (3), Fergus (2).

Man of the Match: Hamish for strong batting and improved bowling.

Belhaven Yorkers U9 win by 15 runs.

U9 Bouncers

Fortune favoured our Belhaven Bouncers in their first match of the season against Fettes.

The Belhaven Bouncers made a solid start to their season with a win against Fettes in their first U9 cricket match of the year.

Belhaven showed good sportsmanship throughout, lending two fielders to Fettes, who were short of players.

The Bouncers scored 54 runs in their first innings and added another 55 in the second innings, finishing as winners by 27 runs.

There were some strong individual performances during the match. Innes bowled a maiden over, while Will R took a very good catch and also claimed a wicket with the ball. For his all-round contribution, Will R was named Cricketer of the Match.

While the result was pleasing, the team knows they could have behaved better on the sidelines by watching the game more carefully and supporting their teammates when not directly involved.

Overall, it was a positive start to the season for the Bouncers.
