Music in the Community

Music in the Community

The Saturday at the end of June was yet another busy day for the musicians of Belhaven.

During the afternoon the Pipe Band performed at several venues. They played at Lammermuir Care Home in Dunbar and then at Haddington Care Home. The numbers were much smaller than the 500 on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh a few weeks earlier, but there was just as much satisfaction playing to those 20 or so Care home residents, who just loved it; dancing, marching, singing and conducting as the band played!

Next stop was Belhaven Beach, where, as last year, the Band played in the sea! They then gave a full 15 minute performance on the beach to many listeners.

The final performance was given to members of Winterfield Golf Club before the customary and celebratory can of IronBru!

During the evening the Choristers were invited to lead the Service of Hope and Remembrance for Cancer Research Race for Life. This was at Hallhill Stadium and was a very moving occasion indeed. The choir took to the stage and performed absolutely superbly to hundreds of people. The music was very emotional and there were understandably many who were visibly upset and moved - such is the power of Music. However, the last piece, a memorial arrangement of You'll Never Walk Alone, was met with rapturous applause and cheers at the end.

The Choristers this academic year really are of an exceptional standard and always do themselves proud on their many adventures and performances. It Is so sad that more than half of the 24 will leave the school next week. We wish them well for the future and we will miss them greatly, but it leaves opportunities of course for other Belhaven pupils to audition for a place as a Chorister and gain similar experiences!

All the Form 1 leavers in Pipe Band and Choristers will enjoy an end of year Musicians' Dinner at the Golf Club on Tuesday.

To finish the year there will take place the Summer Concert Last Night of the Proms, and then, on the final day, the end of term service in Belhaven Church, which promises to be a very moving occasion as we say goodbye to all our Leavers.
