New Staff: short interviews

We are delighted to introduce some of the new members of our Belhaven teaching and pastoral team...!

Mrs. Grey: Head of Modern Languages

Lindsay Grey joined Belhaven this term to run the Modern Languages department and has been an instant hit with everyone! She is heavily involved in girls’ sport as well as the boarding house, where she is on duty on a Wednesday evening.

Lindsay studied French, Spanish and International Relations at the University of St Andrews. Originally from the Highlands, she has spent a lot of time living and working abroad in France, Spain,  Mexico  and Chile. After university and working abroad, she completed Teach First in the  North East  of England and has just moved back up to North Berwick after spending four years in London where she was Head of Modern Foreign Languages at an inner-city secondary school. Lindsay is keen sportswoman and loves running, cycling, sea swimming and Munro climbing.

Mr. Purkiss: English & Humanities

Jak Purkiss has joined this term and has already made a great impression in the English, History and TPR departments. He arrives from London having spent a brief time teaching Key Stage 2 following two years teaching abroad in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a keen sportsman, still playing where possible and particularly enjoys football,  cricket and rugby. He is also an avid cyclist and has completed a number of  long distance triathlons and running competitions.

Jak is also inspiring a rapid improvement in our football and has made significant progress in encouraging both boys and girls to play in a more structured way! We are hoping to line up some football fixtures and build on the excitement that he has created – welcome to you and Izzi, Mr. P!

Mr. White: Housemaster of Boys' House, Maths & History

In the middle of August, we welcomed Jack, Vicky and Rosie White to Belhaven to take over the boys’ boarding house. They join us from Marlborough College Malaysia, where Jack was the Assistant Boarding Housemaster and Head of Year 7.

Having trained as a Secondary Maths teacher whilst working at Barnard Castle School, he made the transition to Prep School teaching and loves the variety that it brings. He is a keen sportsman and outdoor enthusiast and very much looks forward to exploring the East Lothian coast with pupils, his wife Vicky and one year old daughter Rosie.  The White family have made an immediate impact on the school and you can learn a little more about them in this short video:
