Outstanding Choristers at Edinburgh Music Festival

Outstanding Choristers at Edinburgh Music Festival

The Belhaven Choristers entered the Edinburgh Music Festival on 10th March to perform in the Choirs category of the competition.

The 26 choristers performed in St Cuthbert's Church in Edinburgh and sang, to a packed church, Panis Angelicus and You Raise Me Up.

They were rated by the Adjudicators in the highest possible category of "Outstanding" in all aspects of their performance, including Musically, Technically and Artistically. An absolutely tremendous achievement, meaning they could not have impressed more. An invitation to sing in Glasgow Cathedral in the future followed.

The adjudicators' comments (both written and spoken) were full of praise for their performances, for their "poise and discipline", being "very assured and confident", "effective harmonising", "very musical", "emotional presence and projection", and "fabulous".

After the competition, the Choristers took part in the Vocal Workshop, and then earned their packed lunch in the park!

There was then time to walk the Royal Mile, see the castle and have a visit to the Edinburgh Museum. Just part of the 22,000 steps the Choristers walked!

There was yet more singing to come. Mid-afternoon the Choristers sang a Concert in the impressive and very large St Mary's Cathedral, one of the largest church buildings in Scotland. It had beautiful acoustics and the Choristers performed without rehearsal.

Just enough time was left to go to a restaurant for a well earned chorister evening meal before our train journey home. Such an enjoyable and extremely successful day.

The Belhaven Choristers really are now officially rated as "Outstanding"!
