Pre-Prep take on the great outdoors in winter

Environmental Resolutions

The Pre-Prep started the new year with great intentions in Outdoor Ed, setting a variety of Environmental Resolutions, from turning the tap off whilst we clean our teeth, to reusing, reducing and recycling, to using reference books to look up our natural discoveries. We have discussed how to make small daily changes to help Mother Nature and have created some lovely posters to remind us to keep on track and to keep asking the questions!

Spotting the small stuff...

We have been focusing on the small stuff in our ‘Explore the Outdoors’ module and this has brought great joy as we are beginning to see signs of spring on the horizon! The children have been documenting all their findings to include new buds and flowers such as winter aconite and snowdrops, alongside bird chorus and the first flowering of mature ivy, amongst many others. We are reporting these findings to Nature’s Calendar for the Woodland Trust to help scientists monitor the effects of climate change on wildlife.

Storm Éowyn Clear Up Squad

Most recently, the Pre-Prep has been learning about storms and rolling up their sleeves to literally get hands on with the devastation caused by them! Belhaven’s very own Clear Up Squad have been helping to get the school grounds cleared up after Storm Éowyn came to visit and what a pleasure they are to work with…even in the rain! Absolute troopers!

We are grateful to begin seeing the days lengthen ever so slightly and as the sunshine melts the frost, we continue to wrap up warm, and maximise our time in the great outdoors.
