Pre-Prep: Sports Day 2024

Pre-Prep: Sports Day 2024

On Friday 7th June we hosted our 3rd Pre-Prep Sports Day. The weather was changeable and unpredictable, but we went ahead as planned and braved the windy conditions. The children were incredibly courageous and supportive of each other resulting in a day full of success and a great number of records.

The day began with a brilliant and motivational set by our school pipe band. The children then headed off for the long jump, 400m and 800m. In the long jump, we had some very impressive jumpers from all year groups with James in Form 8 jumping 2m56, Harris in Form 7 jumping 2m55 and in Form 6 we had Lochie and Annie jumping 2m94 and 2m87, respectively. They both beat the previous record of 2m80. In the 800m we had a new girls' record of 3m33 set by Annie.

We moved into the sports hall for the high jump, an event that is often a highlight for many due to the support and encouragement that the spectators and children give the competitors. This was very exciting and the children were brilliant. The previous record stood at 95cm and it was beaten by Ruaridh, Annie and Lochie with the final height of 1.05cm.

After a short shower during the high jump, we came back outside to some beautiful sunshine ready for the potato and spoon, skipping, sack race and 3-legged race. This is always brilliant fun, with a variety of techniques and styles used in order to reach the finish line as quickly as possible.

The 80m sprint was very exciting with many PBs achieved and two new records. Coren got the girls record with a time of 14.61s and Ruaridh got the boys record with a time of 14.14s.

Our final event was the very gripping patrol relay. We had two races so that everyone in the Pre-Prep could take part. They carried the batons with confidence and the changeovers were brilliant. The winner of the first race was the Owls and the winner of the second race was the Woodpeckers.

Everyone was fantastic and gave their all to the different events. In the end, the winner in Form 8 was James and, in the Victor Ludorem, third equal were Rory and Rufus, second was Ruaridh and the winner was Lochie. In the Victrix Ludorem (a new cup kindly donated by the Reutter Family), in third place was Flora, second place Coren and the winner Annie. Once all the points were totalled up from everyone’s achievements the winners of the patrol cup were the Lions. Well done to everyone!

A huge thank you must be said to Mrs Macdonald, Mrs Gibson, Miss Birrell, Mr Dryburgh and our wonderful gaps Ed, Flick and Bellamie for all their help in making the day run smoothly. Thank you also to Elena and the catering team and to Richie and the estates team.
