Boys' Hockey: U13b v Fettes
Belhaven and Fettes share 10-goal thriller!
After a drab performance in our last match’s second-half capitulation I implored better from the boys today and goodness, did I get it in spades!
Going down to two early goals to defensive errors our heads could easily have gone down but Louis capitalised on a mistake down the middle to thrash the ball past the ‘keeper, followed immediately by a nice set up from Alexander D. as Louis brought us level. By half-time Louis had completed his hat-trick as he pulled the ball away from the defender just as the latter was about to receive it, and then, on his reverse stick thumped the ball so hard past the helpless goalie I thought he has damaged the boarding.
Half-time, we were 3-2 up but this lasted no time into the second-half as no marking in defence cost us the equaliser. Indecisive goalkeeping meant we were suddenly 4-3 down but commeth day, commeth the D as Alexander finished from Louis’ cross. Again we shipped a weak goal as our defence was out of position (in midfield) but Louis had the last laugh with our fifth, and his fourth goal of the game. But for a little more awareness of the space of others, Louis could even have provided a winner late-on, but a draw was well-deserved by both teams.
And 5-5 is how it ended. What a match. Filled with good skill, great goals and excitement. It was an honour to referee this one.
Man of the Match: Louis.
