U9 Hockey Belhaven vs Loretto

Match 1: Belhaven 1 – 0 Loretto

Match 2: Belhaven 0 – 2 Loretto

Despite having only a few sessions to prepare for their first match of the season, the U9’s did an excellent job, and were well organised form the outset. Charlie was quick to cause Loretto problems, limiting their passing options and hassling for possession. As the game developed the accuracy of the passing increased, though this was difficult as the boys often bunched together around the ball. All square at half time. Eck made a cracking start to the second half and was unlucky not to score, having several close shots. Alexander made some excellent runs up the wing. Eventually, Belhaven were rewarded for their speed and intensity, with Sam scoring, and Belhaven holding out to the end to win the match.

The second match saw more debutants, with Wilfred, Tommy and Oliver passing the ball well through the midfield. Belhaven used the wide areas of the pitch well, but Loretto pushed forward, having several near misses before scoring. Belhaven attempted to regroup, but couldn’t quite make it into the final third, and Loretto broke through again to score another before the end. One game a piece then, with the return fixture at Loretto next week. A fantastic first outing for the team – well done to all!
