Boys' Rugby: 1st v Craigclowan

Date:  Wednesday 16th October
Time: 2.00pm
Venue: Belhaven

Belhaven started this match in typical fashion by attacking with pace and defending resolutely and it took only five minutes before Harry burst through a few tacklers to score from close to the line. After ten minutes Belhaven showed a great team move that was finished off by Theo on the right hand side. It took only two more minutes before Harry ran up the right touch line, beating seven prospective tacklers, to cross the line for a second time. What followed was a sustained attack from Craigclowan for around five minutes in which Belhaven showed dominant low tackles to repel the opposition. This proved decisive as, having survived a period of pressure, Belhaven went to the other end of the field and Harry scored from first phase from a lineout.

Half time score: Belhaven Hill 15 - 0 Craigclowan

Five minutes into the new half another great team move saw Jack go over for his first try. Five minutes later Jack smashed over for his second try after more sustained and quick attacking play from Belhaven. The seventh try saw Theo make a break down the left touch line making a good inside pass to Jack who went over for his third try. After some tight attacking play from Belhaven in the Craigclowan 22, Theo sniped round the corner of the ruck to score his second try. For the ninth and final try Harry broke the defence in his own half and showed good pace to go round the covering defence and wrap up Belhaven’s scores with a fine solo effort.

Final score: Belhaven Hill 34 - 0 Craigclowan

This Wednesday the team maintained the high performance level they showed against Merchiston last week. Given the score-line it would be wrong to assume that this game was an easy win for Belhaven. Instead, this win was built on formidable defence and a work-rate across the team which was impressive.

Man of the match: Despite not appearing on the score sheet, Wilfred showed good leadership and communication from scrum half and wins man of the match this week.
