Girls Hockey 1st v Fettes

Girls' Hockey: 1st v Fettes

It was great to welcome the parents down to a cold but bright day at Hallhill. After a decent warm up the game started, the girls were shooting into the setting sun. Both teams were evenly matched, and the ball moved around nicely. This time the girls worked hard not to give the opposition an easy time on the ball giving us a greater turnover rate. We were able to get the ball up the right-hand side but struggled to move it into the D every time with Fettes doubling their defenders up on that side. A couple of opportunities went by us with good clearances from Fettes and a lack of aggression on our part.

Fettes had a similar experience when moving up their right hand side but capitalised quickly on the gap that appeared behind on the left. We worked hard to cover that gap in the second half. It was during one of these runs that Fettes snuck their first goal in with a great strike from the edge of the D. The girls reacted well and continued applying the pressure and stepping onto the players. In the dying minutes of the game Fettes won a series of short corners that were defended brilliantly, unfortunately a rebound was picked up and fired in.

It was great to see the girls applying more pressure to the players on the ball and looking to pass into space, this made the opposition have to work hard for their win.

MVP: Grace C-B

Well done.
