Girls' Hockey: U11a v Ardvreck

Girls' Hockey: U11a v Ardvreck

Belhaven 1 – 6 Ardvreck

With freezing temperatures this morning, and frozen pitches up at Ardvreck our away match was cancelled but Ardvreck decided to travel to slightly warmer climates and play the U11 fixture at Hallhill.

Hallhill probably wasn’t much warmer but the girls were excited that their match was still on.  With some illness on the team, the girls were without Poppy and Eliza but there were some willing Form 3 girls ready to step up and play for the team.

Having already played Ardvreck at the two tournaments, the girls were aware that they would be a tough team to beat.  The Ardvreck girls got off to a flying start and scored a string of early goals.  Alice R dropped to defence today and along with Grace and Alice T did their best to keep the ball away.  Flora and Lucy played their socks off in the middle of the pitch and made some great ground with the ball.  Davina teamed up with Alexandra in attack and at times were close to scoring.  A great free hit from Alice R saw the ball travel past all the Ardvreck attack and onto the sticks of our attack.  Bee swapped on at this point and assisted a pass to Alexandra and a first goal was scored for Belhaven.

The aim of the second half of the game was to limit the attacking chances for Ardvreck.  Mary was good in defence swapping in to let Alice T play in the middle of the pitch.  Bea made a debut for the team too in this half and the whole team played their hardest.  We had a few more shots at goal but the ball was wide each time,

Well done to all of you especially Bee, Bea and Mary for stepping in to play for the team today.
