Girls' Hockey: U11b v St. Mary's

Belhaven Hill School 1 - 3 St Mary’s, Melrose

It was a very windy afternoon in Hallhill. Beatriz was captain. St Mary’s won the toss and took the first pass. Sophie and Bee played forwards; they have both made good progress at making sure at least one of them is in the attacking D. Beatriz, Willow and Amy played in midfield. Willow showed us again what amazing stamina she has, as she was never further than five metres away from the ball, she tackled endlessly and made some good passes to her teammates. Beatriz and Amy played much better in the second half, making strategic passes to the sides of the pitch and making great tackles. Olive was terrific in defence, saving many attempts on goal from St Mary’s and hitting the ball to the side, a huge well done to her! Louisa, Emilia in the first half and Louisa in the second half, did a good job at defending. They were much faster than in the last match at clearing the ball away from their D.

Overall, it was a very even-sided match, during which we had many attempts at scoring, mostly by Sophie, but missed by only a couple of inches on several occasions. That was until she scored a goal, just THREE SECONDS before the end of the match, to make it 3-1 overall.

Well done girls, this was a much better match than last week: you are making great progress!

Next match next Wednesday against Craigclowan.
