3rd Netball v Craigclowan

Belhaven  5 - 6  Craigclowan

With the sun slowly dipping below the trees, the thirds who had waited patiently on the sidelines took to the court.  Louisa captained the team today and the aim of the match was to enjoy the game and gain match practice.

Belhaven took the first centre pass and it took a little while for the team to settle into the game.  Play was even for the first part of the game and saw both teams with equal possession of the ball.  Petra and Paloma had a few shots on goal but it was Craigclowan who managed the first goal of the game.  After the first quarter Craigclowan were leading by one goal.

We had a switch around of positions in the second quarter and Polly bravely stepped into the role of GS – a first for her at shooting.  Bea, Louisa and Faith worked really hard in the centre of the court whilst Freya and Caroline became more confident defending the ball in the circle.  Craigclowan scores once again but the ball was quickly back in the Belhaven circle for Polly to score the first goal for Belhaven.  By half time Belhaven were one goal down 1-2.

We had a change round in positions for the third quarter to allow Robyn to pair up with Polly in attack.  The girls created more space on the court and started to think more carefully about their passes.  Polly stayed in a great position in the circle and with some super ball feeds from Robyn was soon ready to shoot.  Belhaven were making a comeback and finished the quarter 4-2.

Louisa had a break for the final quarter to allow Petra some further match play but unfortunately the girls were beginning to drop the ball as their hands became colder! Craigclowan were quick to pick up our dropped balls and took advantage of this to score again, bringing the scores even at one point.  Another goal from Polly and then Craigclowan play was very close and it was going to be anyone’s game now.  A final goal from Craigclowan just before the final whistle saw them sneak ahead and win the game 5-6.

Well done to the team today.  It is tough playing when it is cold but you all kept going, fighting for possession.  Some of you played out of position today and did so brilliantly.

Lots to work on but we have plenty of time before your next match.
